Document the pattern
Note location, direction, approximate width, whether the crack is changing, and what other symptoms are nearby.
Interior cracks
Drywall cracks can be cosmetic or movement-related. Diagonal cracks near openings or recurring cracks paired with floor changes may justify closer attention.
Masonry cracks
Brick can crack for multiple reasons. Stair-step patterns, separation around openings, and progressive change deserve evaluation in context.
Slab cracks
Concrete cracks vary in significance. Width, displacement, moisture, location, and relationship to structural movement all matter.
